Men's Soccer: WVU to Face Wake Forest

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 15-seeded West Virginia University men’s soccer team will face No. 2-seeded Wake Forest on Sunday, Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. in Winston-Salem, N.C. Wake Forest defeated Furman 1-0, while the Mountaineers defeated Virginia 1-0 to advance to the Sweet 16.
This is the second trip to the Sweet 16 in program history for the Mountaineers. In 1981, WVU defeated Virginia 2-1 in the round of 16. The Mountaineers then fell to Alabama A&M 2-1 in the Elite Eight. The round of 16 in 1981 was the second round of the tournament which only had 20 teams, WVU received a first round bye.
WVU is undefeated against the ACC this season, recording a 3-0 mark after the win over Virginia in the second round. The Demon Deacons are 18-2-2 on the season. The meeting between WVU and Wake Forest is the first in program history.
