Women's Basketball: No. 16 WVU to Meet No. 1

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (November 20, 2007) – West Virginia University’s 16th-ranked women’s basketball team takes on defending national champion and current No. 1 Tennessee, Wednesday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m., at the Charleston Civic Center, in Charleston, W.Va.
WVU (3-0) and Tennessee (3-0) will be meeting for the sixth time in a series that dates back to 1982; the Lady Vols lead the series 5-0. The contest will mark the first time both teams will have faced each other nationally ranked. Tennessee defeated WVU last season 66-51 in Knoxville, Tenn.
WVU has defeated Canisius (76-49), St. Francis, Pa., (81-29) and Cornell (93-52) to open the season undefeated for the third time under coach Mike Carey and seventh time overall.
Tennessee has defeated Chattanooga (76-56), Oklahoma (70-67) and Texas (92-67).
Senior center Olayinka Sanni leads the Mountaineers, averaging 17.3 points and 9.0 rebounds per contest. Senior guard Meg Bulger is averaging 15.7 points per game and has connected on 10-of-18 3-point field goals to open the season.
West Virginia PBS will be broadcasting the event with Hoppy Kercheval and Warren Baker on the call. MSN Radio, with Travis Jones and Jay Jacobs, will air the contest on many MSN stations.
