Cross Country: WVU Moves to No. 13 in Poll

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team moved up one spot in the United States Track & Field Cross Country Coaches Association Top 25 this week. WVU is ranked No. 13 after placing second and qualifying for the NCAA Championship at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional last weekend.
Regional champion Princeton comes in at No. 4, while BIG EAST teams ranked include No. 14 Providence and No. 18 Georgetown.
The NCAA Championship will be held on Monday, Nov. 19, in Terre Haute, Ind. WVU earned one of the 18 automatic bids by finishing in the top two of the Mid-Atlantic Region. Thirteen additional teams were added as at-large selections. There are also four individuals from each region participating from non-qualifing teams. From the Mid-Atlantic Region, Bridget Franek of Penn State, Cheyenne Ogletree of Rutgers, Rachel Papin of La Salle and Sheila Reid of Villanova qualified.
The top 30 finishers in the event plus the top 30 American finishers will become All-Americans in the event.
WVU will be making its fourth appearance at nationals (1997, 2000 and 2004). The 2004 team went on to place 15th at nationals, the highest finish in school history, after winning the region.
