MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Game times for first and second round NCAA Women’s Soccer Championship action at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium have been finalized. Game one on Friday, Nov. 16, between James Madison and Penn will begin at 3:30 p.m. Game two between fourth-seed West Virginia and Navy is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
The winners of Friday’s first round contests will advance to a second round match at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium. Game time on Sunday, Nov. 18, is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Ticket prices are $7 for adults and $5 for youth and students. To order tickets in advance call 1-800-WVU GAME or visit the Mountaineer Ticket Office in the WVU Coliseum. The first 200 WVU students will be admitted free courtesy of the Mountaineer Maniacs.
West Virginia will host the national tournament this weekend for the fourth time. The 15-4-2 Mountaineers find themselves ranked in the final regular season polls released Monday evening.
The 2007 BIG EAST Champion Mountaineers moved up five spots to No. 15 in the nation by Soccer America. WVU checks in at No. 10 in the Soccer Buzz rankings, giving the Mountaineers their 75th consecutive week ranked in the poll, the sixth-longest current streak among ranked teams.
Freshman goalkeeper Kerri Butler has been named to Soccer America’s Team of the Week for her efforts in the BIG EAST Championship last weekend. The Fredericksburg, Va., native was brilliant in goal in a semifinal shutout over No. 24 Louisville and a 1-1 draw against No. 9 Notre Dame in the championship finals. Butler made six saves in 218 minutes and nine seconds of action. She made two key saves in overtime and made the biggest save of her young career on the first penalty kick of the shootout, denying Herman Trophy winner Kerri Hanks of Notre Dame.
Butler is the third Mountaineer to be named to Soccer America’s weekly national award joining Krystle Kallman (Oct. 30) and Natalie Cocchi (Oct. 9).
