Volleyball: Mountaineers Sweep Rutgers

MORGANTOWN, W.Va.- The West Virginia University volleyball team defeated BIG EAST opponent Rutgers this afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
The Mountaineers (15-14, 5-9) defeated the Scarlet Knights (3-21,1-12) in a 3-0(30-18, 30-20, 3-22) match.
The Mountaineers recorded a season-high 11 service aces, while also posting 7 team blocks. Leading the Mountaineers was senior outside hitter Abby Tevis who posted 14 kills, giving her 420 total this season. Tevis now ranks fifth on WVU’s list for most kills in a single season.
Senior setter Kailee Goold also had a stand-out game, recording 33 assists. Goold is currently ranked fourth on WVU’s all-time assist list with 3,279. Freshman libero Bonnie West led the team in digs with 19.
“I’m pleased to beat Rutgers in our final BIG EAST match of the season to finish the conference on a positive note,” says Head Coach Veronica Hammersmith.
The Mountaineers will face Duquesne on Sunday, Nov. 11, in their final match of the season at the WVU Coliseum. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
