Baseball: WVU Opens Blue-Gold World Series

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will hold its 17th annual Blue-Gold World Series on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week at Hawley Field with first pitch at 5 p.m. each day. The event is free and open to the public.
The Blue team will be coached by assistant coach Pat Sherald with seniors Tyler Kuhn and Brent Lockhart acting as captains of the squad. On the mound for the Blue team will be RHP Josh Whitlock.
The Gold team will be coached by assistants Bruce Cameron and Casey Bowling and captained by Matt Yurish and Eric Saffell. Pitching for the Gold team will be LHP Yurish.
“The Blue-Gold World Series is the highlight of our fall season,” comments Head Coach Greg Van Zant. “The series is fun for both the players and the coaches and I know the teams are fired up and ready to play.”
The teams were selected in a draft by each respective captain. WVU has played 19 inter-squad scrimmages so far this season. Freshman Justin Ellis currently leads the squad with .464 batting average, recording 10 RBI in 56 at bats. Kuhn has recorded 22 runs in 18 games posting an average of .435.
On the mound, sophomore Chris Enourato has given up only eight runs in 20 innings pitched while teammate Billy Gross has given up 13 runs in 21 innings pitched. Both have posted only four walks.
Saturday, Oct. 13, and Sunday, Oct. 14, have been deemed rain dates in case of inclement weather.
