Rifle: WVU Opens 2007 Season on Saturday

MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team opens the 2007-08 season on Saturday, Oct. 6, when the Mountaineers play host to NC State. The match will begin at 8 a.m. in the WVU rifle range.
The Mountaineers last faced off against an undefeated NC State team on Nov. 20, 2006. Led by precise shooting from Lafe Kunkel and Brian Launer, WVU posted a 4532-4479 score to hand the Pack its first loss of the season.
WVU was selected to finish fourth in the Great America Rifle Conference this season as released by the conference in late August. Kentucky ranked first in the 2007 Preseason GARC Team Rankings, followed by Army and Nebraska.
Last season, first year head coach Jon Hammond led the rifle team to its first winning record (6-4) since 2003.
