MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Two West Virginia University football players were honored by the Big East Conference, the league announced Monday.
Quarterback Patrick White was named Big East offensive player of the week after leading West Virginia to a 31-3 victory over Rutgers last Saturday in Piscataway, N.J. White completed 10 of 16 passes for 144 yards and also ran for a game-high 156 yards to account for 300 yards of offense against the No. 25-ranked Scarlet Knights.
It was White’s second 100-yard rushing performance this season and the 11th of his career.
Kicker Patrick McAfee picked up the league’s special team player of the week award after scoring seven points, connecting on a 42-yard field goal and converting all four PATs. McAfee also averaged 40 yards on five punts including one that was downed at the Rutgers one-yard line.
Linebacker Mortty Ivy was one of five players listed on the Big East’s weekly honor roll.
West Virginia (7-1) is idle this weekend and will next play at home on Thursday, Nov. 8, against Louisville in a game that will be televised nationally by ESPN.
