MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 8 West Virginia University men’s soccer team will look to stay undefeated at home this season when it hosts No. 21 Seton Hall on Saturday, Sept. 23, at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown, W.Va. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
The Mountaineers (6-1-2, 3-0-1) dropped their first match of the season on Tuesday, Sept. 19, to No. 2 Virginia on the road 2-1. Leading goal scorer Jarrod Smith netted WVU’s goal to send the game into overtime. The Havelock North, New Zealand, native has now scored six goals on the season.
The Pirates (6-2-0, 4-0-0) have West Virginia’s number as of late as Seton Hall has posted a 3-0 record against the Mountaineers since 2003. Since that time WVU has recorded a win or tie against every other current member of the BIG EAST.
The Mountaineers trail in the all-time series 2-9.
SHU has caught fire this season after losing its first two matches of the season to James Madison and Virginia Commonwealth. The Pirates have rattled off six wins and one tie. They have defeated all four BIG EAST opponents to date by a combined score of 8-3.
Seton Hall is very balanced offensively as Eliseo Giusfredi and John Raus have scored five and four goals, respectively.
WVU has played three nationally ranked teams so far this season, posting a record of 1-1-1 in those matches.
