Volleyball: 2006 Schedule Released

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University volleyball head coach Veronica Hammersmith today announced the team’s 2006 schedule.
“I’m very excited to get started with the season,” Hammersmith, who enters her 32nd season of coaching, said.
This year the team looks to improve on its 16-13 overall and 4-10 BIG EAST mark from a year ago. WVU returns seven letterwinners and three starters plus a libero from last season’s team.
West Virginia will round out its 2006 season by facing off against the two first-place finishing teams in the BIG EAST in 2005 - Louisville and Notre Dame. The Mountaineers will take on Louisville at home on November 4 and will travel to Notre Dame on November 12.
The team’s season opens with the WVU Classic, August 25, at the WVU Coliseum. It is one of four tournaments the squad will participate in this year.
“It’s a bonus to be able to play at home on the first weekend of the season,” Hammersmith said.
The Mountaineers’ first match, against Oakland is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
