Volleyball: Akron Defeats Oakland

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Akron defeated Oakland in day two action during the West Virginia Classic at the WVU Coliseum.
Akron won the match 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 30-25, 30-21).
Akron (2-1) worked to establish dominance early in game one with a 9-6 lead. Oakland (0-3) countered to tie the game 9-9 before pulling ahead 12-9. Akron battled back to tie it up at 19-19. Oakland pulled ahead 29-28 and went on to win the game 30-28. The Zips’ Jennifer Stewart recorded eight kills in the loss.
In game two Akron worked hard to avenge their game one loss. The scores were neck and neck until Akron pulled ahead 24-18. From there, the Zips went on to defeat Oakland 30-25. Akron’s Jennifer Stewart had a game-high six kills while her teammate Kim Horn totaled seven digs.
The Zips continued their game two success with a game three 30-25 win over the Golden Grizzlies. Akron’s Molly Rutledge recorded a game-high six kills. Meanwhile, Oakland’s Stephanie Parkin totaled a game-high six digs.
Game four started as another close contest. Akron, however, pulled ahead to an 18-10 lead. With the help of Jennifer Stewart’s game-high six digs, Akron went on to defeat Oakland 30-21.
This is the last match for both teams at this year’s West Virginia Classic.
