Gymnastics: Burdette Announces New Assistant Coach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnastics coach Linda Burdette today announced that Jason Butts will be added to her staff as an assistant coach for the 2006-07 season. Butts will be primarily responsible for coaching the uneven bars.
“We are very excited to have Coach Butts with us,” Burdette said. “Jason comes from a very high level private club and he will help with the training of our collegiate athletes.”
Butts brings 12 years of club coaching experience to WVU from Classic City Gymnastics in Athens, Ga., where he trained both males and females since 2001.
The Athens, Ga., native has guided both women and men to Junior Olympic Nationals over the past seven years. He has sent several athletes to the Region 8 Championships, while also assisting numerous gymnasts in earning Division I athletic scholarships in the process.
Butts has helped work the privately owned Woodward Camp (1994-96) and the UGA Gym Dog Camp (2004-06). He competed as a competitive gymnast for 10 years in Class I and was a Junior Olympic National Qualifier. Butts is also a National Gymnastics Judges Association Certified Junior Olympic Judge.
Butts will receive a bachelor’s degree in business administration and management from the University of Georgia in the fall of 2006. Butts resides in Morgantown.
