MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - West Virginia University has scheduled several special events and promotions for the 2006 football season. Those include Homecoming and Varsity Weekend against Syracuse (October 14), Parents' Day versus Eastern Washington (September 9) and Mountaineer Week versus Cincinnati (November 11).
WVU will hold its 16th annual Sports Hall of Fame induction on Saturday, November 11, prior to the Cincinnati football game. The 2006 class includes longtime coach Quentin Barnette, wrestling national champion Scott Collins, legendary sportswriter Mickey Furfari, basketball standout Clyde Green, All-America wrestler Louis Guidi, football's George Henshaw and two-sport standout Sam Mandich.
Season-long promotions for fans include the Mountaineer Fan Festival presented by RazeWV.com before each home game; this popular event in the Caperton Indoor Practice Facilities offers fans the chance to walk through the giant inflatable WV helmet and play on other various inflatable interactive games. WVU cheerleaders, members of the Mountaineer Marching Band and the Mountaineer will be available for photos and autographs. Admission is free and concessions and WVU merchandise will be on sale.
Fans may be picked for a number of special prizes. The Coca-Cola Caught Red Handed golf cart will patrol the stadium parking lots giving away soft drinks and Coca-Cola promotional items. One row of fans each game will win lottery tickets in the W.Va. Lottery Lucky Row promotion.
