Women's Basketball: Big East Opponents Announced

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Big East Conference women’s basketball home and away opponents for the 2006-07 season have been determined, the conference announced today.
The format for 2006-07 will be a 16-game regular season schedule with each team playing seven home opponents, seven away opponents, one away opponent only, one home opponent only and one repeat opponent.
West Virginia, 15-16 last year, will play conference home games against Cincinnati, Connecticut, Providence, St. John’s, Seton Hall, South Florida and Syracuse. Road dates will be against DePaul, Georgetown, Louisville, Marquette, Notre Dame, Pitt and Rutgers.
West Virginia’s repeat opponent is Villanova.
A complete schedule with dates and starting times will be released later this year.
Last year, the Big East had seven teams qualify for the NCAA tournament with three teams finishing the season nationally ranked. Connecticut advanced to the NCAA Elite Eight, falling to Duke in overtime. The Huskies finished the year ranked sixth in one poll and eighth in another. Rutgers finished the year ranked ninth in both polls and bowed up in the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 to Tennessee, while DePaul fell to LSU in the round of 16. The Blue Demons finished 13th in one poll and 15th in another.
