Men's Basketball: Gansey; Pittsnogle MVPs

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Seniors Mike Gansey and Kevin Pittsnogle were named co-Most Valuable Players of the WVU men’s basketball team at the team’s 2005-06 tribute dinner, held Sunday night at the Radisson in Morgantown.
Gansey, a native of Olmsted Falls, Ohio, averaged 16.8 points and 5.7 rebounds per game in earning first team all-BIG EAST honors. He was a finalist for the Oscar Robertson, John Wooden and Naismith awards. Gansey was tabbed an honorable mention All-American selection by the Associated Press.
A native of Martinsburg, W.Va., Pittsnogle led the Mountaineers in scoring at 19.3 points per game, earning first team all-BIG EAST honors. He was named to the John Wooden All-American team and was tabbed a third-team All-American by the NABC. Pittsnogle finished his career as the sixth-leading scorer in school history with 1,708 points and as WVU’s all-time leading three-point shooter with 253.
Other award winners were Darris Nichols (Most Improved), J.D. Collins (Unsung Hero and Best Defender), Johannes Herber (Team Man), Patrick Beilein (Sixth Man) and Pittsnogle (Charge Leader).
The Mountaineers finished the 2005-06 season 22-11 and advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament.
