DURHAM, N.C. – The West Virginia University outdoor track team had some top times from day one of the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
“I had a lot of solid performances today from some of the younger girls as well as the veterans,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said.
West Virginia saw substantial success in the 200 meter dash. Junior Jessica Czaikowski took first place with a personal-best time of 24.15 seconds and senior Junique Morris finished just behind Czaikowski at 24.55 for second place. Teammate Jamillah Nock also landed a top-five finish in the event, crossing the line 25.14 for fifth place.
In the 400 intermediate hurdles, Raeleen Hunter ran a 1:04.44 and Ishonte Johnson-Peters finished in 1:05.14 despite it being just her second time ever running that event. Maria Stover ran her second fastest time in the 1500 meter run at 4:45.13 to finish 31st.
In the field events, Alexis Noel had one of her better triple jumps of the season at 11.28 meters. Noel also took 13th in the high jump at a height of 1.60m. Senior Jen Hall cleared 3.50 meters in the pole vault for 10th place and Erica Reib cleared 1.55 meters in the high jump.
