MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University outdoor track team will travel to Durham, N.C., on April 7-8, to compete at the Duke Invitational.
“The girls are looking to build on the success of the past few weeks,” coach Jeff Huntoon said. “I have been very happy with the way we have started our season and hopefully the trend continues this weekend.”
Last week, the Mountaineers ran to a fifth place finish with 55 points at the Terrapin Invitational in College Park, Md. West Virginia had seven top-five finishes including the 4x100 relay team that took first place with a time of 46.16.
Junior Jessica Czaikowski posted an NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.80 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles to finish third. Czaikowski was beat out by a pair of Hampton runners, Yvette Lewis and Kellie Wells, for first and second place, respectively.
In the field events, senior Lindsey Clark had one of her best days in the javelin, throwing a distance of 42.00 meters to take second place behind Maryland-Eastern Shore’s Sherita Harriot (43.08m). Senior Jen Hall was also able to place second in the pole vault, with a height of 3.65 meters. Both girls’ marks qualified for ECAC’s.
West Virginia had 13 BIG EAST and 10 ECAC qualifying marks, with one NCAA Regional qualifying time overall on the afternoon.
