Baseball: WVU To Face Coppin State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University baseball team will face Coppin State on Tuesday, April 4, at Hawley Field at 1 p.m. in the first game of a doubleheader. The second game will start 30 minutes following the conclusion of game one.
West Virginia (23-4, 5-1 BIG EAST) is coming off of a conference series at Seton Hall in which WVU took two out of the three games. The Mountaineers set a school record with 30 hits in Saturday’s 28-8 win over the Pirates.
Redshirt freshman centerfielder Adam White leads the Mountaineers at the plate through 27 games this season with a .467 batting average and a team-high 16 steals.
Sophomore second baseman Tyler Kuhn is also hitting above .400 with a .412 average and 14 extra base hits this season. Kuhn leads the team with 31 RBI.
Junior third baseman Justin Jenkins is batting .400 with seven home runs and 27 RBI this season.
Junior Dan Leatherman improved his record to 5-0 while also recording his third save of the season over the weekend. Leatherman now has a 2.30 ERA in 31.1 innings of work.
Coppin State’s (7-24-1, 3-3 MEAC) Corey Greene leads the Eagles at the plate this season with a .336 batting average, four home runs and 21 RBI. Teammate Ryan Deakyne is batting .371 with 11 extra base hits and 26 RBI in 32 games for the Eagles.
The Mountaineers are a perfect 15-0 this season at Hawley Field and have won 18 straight at home dating back to 2005. WVU also ranks first in the country in scoring margin (+5.7) and is 21-0 when scoring at least five runs in a game.
