COLLEGE PARK, Md. – The West Virginia University track team had seven top-five finishes at the Terrapin Invitational at Kehoe Field on Saturday, April 1.
“Everyone performed really well this weekend after a hard week of training,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said.
The Mountaineer 4x100 relay team was the only event West Virginia took first place in at the meet. The relay, consisting of Junique Morris, Jamillah Nock, Shani Boone, and Jessica Czaikowski, finished in a season-best 46.16 seconds to qualify for ECAC competition.
“Our 4 x100 team has a good chance to do well at the NCAA Regionals and may have an outside chance to make nationals,” Huntoon said.
Senior Lindsey Clark had one of her better throws of her career in the javelin with a distance of 42.01 meters to take second place, and senior Jen Hall also took second place in the pole vault at a height of 3.65 meters. Both girls qualified for ECAC competition.
Czaikowski posted the only NCAA Regional qualifying time of the day after running the 100-meter hurdles in 13.80 seconds to take third, while teammate Nock took sixth (14.42). In other events, Morris took fifth in the 200 (24.49) and Halimah Bashir also placed fifth in the 400 (56.79).
Overall on the afternoon, WVU had 13 BIG EAST, 10 ECAC, and one NCAA Regional qualifying time at the meet.
The Mountaineers return to the track on April 7-8, at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
