MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team is set for the final two home matches of the season against No. 54 DePaul on Friday, March 10, at 2 p.m., before taking on St. John's on Sunday, March 12, at 11 a.m.
The Mountaineers (3-5, 2-0 BIG EAST) are coming off a 6-1 loss to Marshall on March 3, in Huntington, W.Va. Despite its record, West Virginia has played impressively against some of the top teams in the country. In those five losses, the opposing teams are a combined 40-17 this season.
"DePaul is another top nationally ranked program that we're facing this season," head coach Dan Silverstein said. "They're having a great season in the BIG EAST for their first year. We've won 12 consecutive matches at home and we're looking to make it 13. I know we're up for the challenge."
In the match against St. John's (4-5, 0-1 BIG EAST), the Mountaineers look to take care of some unfinished business from last season. The Red Storm defeated West Virginia, 4-1, last season in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament.
"I know our girls have been waiting for this match since losing to them in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament last year," Silverstein said. "We look forward to playing them at home in front of our crowd against a very good St. John's team."
Both matches will be played at Ridgeview Racquet Club.
