Baseball: Van Zant Announces Assistant Coach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University baseball coach Greg Van Zant announced today the addition of Pat Sherald as a full-time assistant coach to the baseball coaching staff.
“Hiring coach Sherald as a full-time assistant coach is a great move for our staff,” coach Van Zant said. “He has been doing an excellent job working with our hitters.”
Sherald, a native of Emmitsburg, Md., is currently in his second season with the Mountaineer baseball team after having worked with the team as a part-time assistant in 2005. He will primarily work with the hitters and catchers. He will also assist with the coordination of practice, travel, game management, recruiting, day-to-day operations, and other duties assigned by coach Van Zant.
Sherald came to WVU from Lamar University where he worked with the pitchers and catchers an assistant coach for three seasons. Sherald also coordinated the in-season and off-season strength and conditioning programs while at Lamar. The Cardinals won two Southland Conference championships, two conference tournament titles, while appearing in three NCAA Regional Tournaments in his three years as a coach.
Sherald was a two-year letterman at Lamar from 2000-01 and earned all-Southland Conference honors at catcher. He earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree in kinesiology and was also named graduate student of the year. In high school, Sherald was a USA Today honorable mention All-American and MVP of the Crown All-Star game at Catoctin High.
Sherald became a certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist in 2002 and is a member of the American Baseball Coaches Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
