Gymnastics: WVU Receives Postseason Bid

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The NCAA today announced that the West Virginia University women’s gymnastics team received a postseason bid to one of the six regional competitions.
No. 22 West Virginia (22-8) will compete in the Southeast Regional on Saturday, April 8, at the Stageman Coliseum in Athens, Ga., beginning at 6 p.m. The regional includes host team Georgia (21-0), which is the defending national champion and current No. 1 team in the nation.
The Mountaineers, who have now qualified for the postseason in 28 out of the last 29 years, are making their 23rd trip to an NCAA regional in the 24 years that the association has sponsored gymnastics.
For West Virginia to advance to the NCAA Championships, held April 20-22 in Corvallis, Ore., the Mountaineers must place in the top two at their regional meet. WVU has advanced to nationals four times including its most recent appearance in 2000.
Regional participants include the nation's top 18 teams based on regional qualifying score (RQS), who are seeded into six regions (three per region). The teams assigned to the Southeast Regional include No. 1 Georgia (197.305 RQS), No. 12 Nebraska (196.035) and No. 13 Missouri (195.790).
The remaining three regional slots were filled from within the region, and they include No. 22 West Virginia (194.7), No. 23 North Carolina (194.69) and No. 29 North Carolina State (194.135).
Georgia’s average attendance is 9,484 at regular season home meets this season in its facility that holds a capacity of 10,523.
