Men's Basketball: Pittsnogle 3rd Team All-American

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University senior center Kevin Pittsnogle was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) All-America third team, it was announced today.
Pittsnogle becomes the first Mountaineer men’s basketball player honored on an All-American team since guard Wil Robinson was a first team All-America selection in 1972.
In 30 games this season, the 6-foot-11-inch Martinsburg native is averaging 19.5 points and 5.7 rebounds per game while shooting 40.5 percent from 3-point range. Pittsnogle is currently ranked ninth on West Virginia’s career scoring list with 1,657 points. He was recently named first team all-Big East and is also a finalist for the John R. Wooden and Naismith Award presented to college basketball’s top player.
The NABC first team consisted of the Duke duo of J.J. Redick and Sheldon Williams, along with Gonzaga forward Adam Morrison, Connecticut forward Rudy Gay and Villanova guard Randy Foye.
Selected to the NABC second team were Dee Brown (Illinois), Rodney Carney (Memphis), Allan Ray (Villanova), Brandon Roy (Washington) and Craig Smith (Boston College).
Joining Pittsnogle on the third team were LaMarcus Aldridge (Texas), Tyler Hansbrough (North Carolina), Chris Lofton (Tennessee) and P.J. Tucker (Texas).
Located in Kansas City, Mo., the NABC was founded in 1927 by legendary Kansas basketball coach Phog Allen. Allen organized coaches into this collective group to serve as guardians of the game. The NABC is currently comprised of 5,000 members consisting primarily of college men’s basketball coaches.
West Virginia (20-10) will face Southern Illinois (22-10) in an NCAA tournament first-round game in Auburn Hills, Mich., on Friday, March 19 at approximately 2:55 pm following the Iowa-Northwestern State game.
The Mountaineers are making their second straight trip to the NCAA tournament.
