Women's Tennis: WVU Falls to St. John's

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team fell to St. John's in a close 4-3 match on Sunday, March 12, in Morgantown, W.Va.
"We battled hard today, but St. John's outplayed us," head coach Dan Silverstein said. "We've got to move on and hopefully we'll meet them again in the BIG EAST tournament."
At No.1 doubles, senior Raynie Theis and sophomore Stacey Percival got things started with a win, defeating Tumsevica-Adamski, 8-5. Sophomores Natalia Prinz and Colleen Speaker fell at No. 2, 8-6, to Chachua-Blahutiakova. At No. 3, juniors Ashley Constantine and Catherine Koontz lost to Lorenzetti-Gasiunaite, 9-7.
In singles action, sophomore Monica Lyskawa cruised to a victory over Tumevica at No.1, 6-0, 6-4. Prinz defeated Blahutiakova, 7-6, 6-4, at No.3, while junior Kelly Walsh blew past Gasiunaite, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6
At No.2, Percival fell to Chachua, 7-5, 6-1 and Speaker was defeated at No.4 by Lorenzetti, 6-2, 7-5. Theis fell in a tough battle to Adamski, 7-5, 6-3, at No.5.
The Mountaineers (3-7, 2-2 BIG EAST) return to action when they face Marist College on Friday, March 17, at 6 p.m. in Hilton Head, S.C. at the Hilton Head Beach and Tennis Resort.
