MORGANTOWN, W.VA. – West Virginia University’s Dan Mozes and Steve Slaton have been named to college football’s oldest All-America team, it was announced Thursday.
The Walter Camp All-America football team, first selected in 1889, has named the WVU pair to its 25-member grouping. It is selected by the head coaches and sports information directors of the 119 Division I-A football schools and certified by UHY Advisors, a New Haven-based accounting firm.
Last week both were named to the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) All-America first team.
Slaton is one of two sophomores (Arkansas’ Darren McFadden) on the team and it’s the first time in its history two sophomores made up the backfield. West Virginia last had a Walter Camp All-American in 1995 when defensive back Aaron Beasley made the team.
Mozes won the Rimington Award as college football's top center yesterday.
Mozes and Slaton were the only Big East players named to the first team; Pitt’s H.B. Blades and Rutgers’ Ray Rice were honored on the second team.
The Mountaineers (10-2) will face Georgia Tech in the 2007 Toyota Gator Bowl in Jacksonville, Fla., on Jan. 1.
