Women's Basketball: WVU Routs St. Francis, Pa.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University’s women’s basketball team defeated St. Francis, Pa., 98-60, at the WVU Coliseum.
Down 6-5 early in the first half, WVU (8-5, 0-1) used a season-best 19-0 run to take a 24-6 lead at the 10:36 mark; a lead it would not relinquish.
WVU also shot a blistering 82.1% from the field in the first half (23-28) and held a 53-22 advantage at the half. The 53 points marked the second-most in the first half under Mike Carey. WVU finished the game shooting 63.9% (39-61) from the field.
Junior center Olayinka Sanni notched her seventh career double-double tallying 26 points and 10 rebounds in 23 minutes of action. She was 12-15 from the field.
Junior center Ranisha White tallied a career-high in points for the second consecutive game tallying 17 points 6-6 shooting from the field, including a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line.
Chakhia Cole, LaQuita Owens, Sparkle Davis and Lateefah Joye each scored nine points on the night. Joye’s scoring output marked a career best.
The Red Flash (3-7) were led by Danielle Hibbard’s 16 points. Teammate Christie Ayers contributed 15 points.
WVU improves to 32-1 all-time at home against non-conference foes at the WVU Coliseum under Carey.
The Mountaineers return to action, Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at 8:00 p.m. when they host No. 6 Connecticut at the WVU Coliseum. That contest will be broadcast nationally on CSTV.
