Rifle: Mountaineers Fall to Army

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The West Virginia University rifle team fell to Army today at West Point, N.Y.
Army (4-0, 4-0) held a 2301-2226 advantage over West Virginia (2-1, 1-1) after the smallbore competition. The Black Knights shot 2337 total points in air rifle to the Mountaineers’ 2288 points. Army took the match 4638-4514.
West Virginia’s Brian Launer recorded the second-highest smallbore score of the day with 579 points. Two of the three highest scores belonged to Army as Chris Abalo totaled 582 points and David Amiot summed 576 points.
The Mountaineers boasted the second-highest score of the day in air rifle competition with Launer summing 586 points; just three points shy of the top score. The Black Knights also shot two of the three highest air rifle scores as John Fiddes shot 589 points and both Chris Abalo and David Amiot shot 583 points each.
West Virginia will return to GARC action with a match against Nebraska on Saturday, Nov. 11, and a meeting with Kentucky on Sunday, Nov. 12, both in Lexington, Ky.
