MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University swimming and diving teams will host the Penn State Nittany Lions at the Natatorium on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 4 p.m.
The Mountaineers, coming off two very successful preseason meets, look to set the tone for the 2006-07 season with solid swims and improved races against PSU.
“This will be the toughest meet of our season,” said third year head coach Sergio Lopez. “We are going to look to get experience for both the men and women and focus on swimming the best we can.”
Both the men’s and women’s squad improved greatly last season. The men placed third at the BIG EAST Championship and crowned five All-Americans while the women achieved their first winning season (5-4-1) in nine years.
“Our goal is to see how the freshmen handle the pressure and get a grasp on where the team is right now,” said Lopez.
WVU will next travel to Louisville, Ky., on Saturday, Oct. 28. The 11 a.m. meeting against the Cardinals will be the Mountaineers’ first BIG EAST meet of the season.
