Volleyball: WVU to Host Pitt and Youngstown St.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University volleyball team will host Pitt and Youngstown St. this weekend. WVU will face off against the rival Panthers at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13, and will continue home action with a 2 p.m. contest against the Penguins on Sunday, Oct. 15.
West Virginia (2-19, 1-5) is coming off a 3-0 sweep of Georgetown on Oct. 8. The win snapped the Mountaineers’ 19-match losing streak. WVU was led by outside hitter Abby Tevis’ 11 kills and 13.5 points against the Hoyas. Middle blocker supplied Tammy Wolf seven blocks, her highest mark thus far. On the season, setter Kailee Goold leads the Mountaineers with 8.92 assists per game while libero Aurora Ebert-Santos heads the defense with 4.46 digs per game.
Pitt (15-6, 4-2) is coming off a sweep of South Florida on Oct. 8. Middle hitters Jessica Moses and Kim Kern contributed eight blocks each in the 3-0 win over the Bulls. Outside hitter Meagan Dooley totaled 11 kills and 14 points for the Panthers. On the season, setter Azadeh Boroumand averages 11.94 assists per game while Moses adds 1.50 blocks per game. Pitt leads the all-time series with the Mountaineers by a 34-1 count.
Youngstown St. (8-14) suffered a 0-3 loss to Butler on Oct. 7. Middle hitter Ruth Boscaljon led the attack against the Bulldogs with 10 kills and 10.5 points. Defensive specialist Janelle McDonald totaled 16 digs while middle hitter Allison Heinz added two blocks. The Penguins are led this season by Boscaljon’s 3.27 kills per game and outside hitter Cari Leslie’s 3.84 digs per game. West Virginia is 14-2 all-time against Youngstown St. The Penguins will take on Cleveland State on Oct. 13 before traveling to Morgantown.
