MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Blue squad captured three of the four events as the West Virginia University gymnastics hosted its annual Gold & Blue intrasquad meet on Saturday afternoon at the WVU Coliseum.
WVAQ on-air radio personality Brian Mo was the master of ceremonies, and a panel of celebrity judges, including WVU football coach Rich Rodriguez and his daughter Raquel, conducted head-to-head voting for the competitors on each event.
The Gold team’s vault squad, consisting of Margaret Ann Moore, Cheryl Goldenfield, Jaime Gold and Gretchen Richter, won all four head-to-head rounds giving the Gold team its lone event win of the day.
The Blue team captured uneven bars (4-1), balance beam (4-2) and the floor exercise (3-1).
Winning routines on the bars for the Blue team included Aimee Brown, Tynisha Dennis, Katie McGregor and Erica Watson. Watson, Dennis, Liz Rouse, and Alyssa DeSantis helped give the Blue team a win on the balance beam, while McGregor, Brown and Watson propelled the Blue team to a win on the floor exercise.
West Virginia begins regular season competition on Friday, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. when the Mountaineers travel to Auburn.
