MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University gymnast Erica Watson has been named Rookie of the Week by the East Atlantic Gymnastics League.
The freshman from Levittown, Pa., led WVU in two events while making her college debut as an all-arounder in the Mountaineers’ 195.3-188.125 loss at No. 9 Auburn on Friday, Jan. 13.
Her team-high balance beam (9.7) and floor exercise (9.55) scores placed fifth and sixth overall, respectively, in the meet. Watson also compiled a fourth-place score of 38.35 in the all-around, and drew sums of 9.625 on uneven bars and 9.475 on vault.
West Virginia (0-1) returns to action Saturday, Jan. 21, when it travels to No. 7 Penn State for a quadrangular meet that also includes No. 2 Michigan and Cornell.
