Track: Mountaineers Finish Third at Kent State

KENT, Ohio - The West Virginia University track team finished in third place with 78.75 points at the Black Squirrel Classic Saturday, Jan. 14, at the Kent State Field House in Kent, Ohio.
“It was a great way to resume our season coming off the break,” head coach Jeff Huntoon said. “Our staff is excited to see what will happen in the two weeks when we travel to Penn State.”
Junior Abbie Stechschulte won the 60-meter hurdles with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 8.88. Junior Halimah Bashir finished second in the 400-meter dash with a BIG EAST qualifying time of 57.52, while teammate Junique Morris finished fourth. Shani Boone placed fourth in 200-meter dash (25.65) to round out top finishers for the sprinters.
Senior Nancy Regalbuto jumped a BIG EAST and ECAC qualifying height of 1.73 meters to win the high jump, while teammate Alexis Noel recorded 11.19 meters in the triple jump to take second.
In the distance events, senior standout Susan Davis ran a BIG EAST qualifying time of 2:16.01 to finish second in the 800-meters. Maria Stover also recorded a second place finish in the women’s one-mile run.
Bucknell won the meet with 113.75 points, while Maryland Eastern Shore placed second with 110.75 points.
The Mountaineers return to action in State College, Pa., this Saturday, Jan. 21, in a dual meet with Penn State.
