MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University track team will resume the 2005-06 indoor season at the Black Squirrel Classic this weekend in Kent, Ohio.
The two-day meet is hosted by Kent State and is scheduled to get underway Friday, at 2 p.m., and again on Saturday, at 10 a.m, at the Kent State Field House.
Other teams expected to attend the meet include Bucknell, Ashland, Maryland Eastern-Shore, Buffalo and Youngstown State.
“The first meet after the holidays is always interesting because of our practice time,” says head coach Jeff Huntoon. “A lot of individuals will get a great opportunity to compete and I would like to duplicate our success from last year.”
Last year at the Black Squirrel Classic, Kent State took the women’s title with 180 points, while WVU placed second with 151 points, followed by Buffalo (122).
WVU’s only meet so far this season was the Holiday Classic in the Shell Building on Dec. 3. Junior Jessica Czaikowski posted a BIG EAST qualifying time of 8.53 to win the 60-meter hurdles and followed that with another BIG EAST qualifying time of 7.70 in the 60-meter dash.
Junique Morris also qualified for the BIG EAST championships with a 7.81 in the 60-meter dash, while junior Halimah Bashir won the 200m title with a time of 25.84.
Abbie Stechschulte captured the women’s long jump title with a personal best leap of 5.71 meters at the Holiday Classic. That jump automatically qualified her for the BIG EAST and ECAC championships.
