MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team placed 18th out of 24 teams with 413 points in the women’s gold division at the Notre Dame Invitational, Friday, Sept. 30.
Susan Davis crossed the line in second place with a time of 17:43, just three seconds off the individual leader, Indiana State’s Laura Engle (17:40). Davis won the Lock Haven Invitational two weeks ago and now has her third top 10 finish of the season.
“Susan continues to impress; that’s the fastest 5k time ever for her personally,” head coach Sean Cleary said. “After a hard week of training, it was great to go out and compete like that to get ready for the championship season.”
Redshirt freshman Alison Spiker was the next Mountaineer across the stripe in 56th place with a time of 19:07. Sophomore Nicole Lemal (19:55) finished 116th also for the Mountaineers.
Michigan had five of the top 20 finishers and won the division with 60 points. Edinboro finished second with 173, while Cincinnati, Indiana State, and Santa Clara rounded out the top five teams.
