MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University cross country team placed third with 116 points behind the running of senior Susan Davis at the Lock Haven Invitational Saturday, Sept. 17, in Lock Haven, Pa.
The Romney, W.Va., native won the race held at the West Branch Cross Country Course with a time of 21:48.21. Freshman Alison Spiker finished 18th (23:16.37) and sophomore Nicole Lemal placed 23rd (23:25.43) to help lead the Mountaineers.
“Susan looked very comfortable out in front of a strong field. She continues to improve and will be a force to be reckoned with by year’s end,” said head coach Sean Cleary.
Penn State won the meet out of the 11 teams that participated, claiming 31 points. Bloomsburg was second with 71 points, while host Lock Haven finished fourth with 133 points. Shippensburg totaled 136 points to round out the top five teams.
“An improved performance in just seven days tells me that this team is doing the right things to be ready for the championship season,” said Cleary.
