MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The No. 20 West Virginia University women’s soccer team travels to Virginia for weekend matches at Richmond and William & Mary.
The Mountaineers (3-3-0) face Richmond on Friday, Sept. 16, at 8 p.m., and William & Mary at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Friday night’s match is the second in the series between the Spiders and the Mountaineers. In 2000, Richmond defeated West Virginia, 5-1, in the first round of the NCAA tournament.
Richmond (2-3-1) enters Friday’s contest having dropped consecutive 1-0 matches to UNLV and Florida Atlantic last weekend.
West Virginia owns a 3-0-0 all-time record versus William & Mary. The two schools last met in 2002 when the Mountaineers downed the Tribe, 4-1, in Morgantown.
William & Mary (2-1-3), last week’s No. 25 team that is currently receiving votes in the NSCAA and SoccerBuzz polls, went 0-0-2 last weekend, tying Dayton and Tennessee at the Virginia Nike Classic.
The Mountaineers close out their five-match road trip when they return to BIG EAST action Friday, Sept. 23, at Syracuse. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. Following that contest, West Virginia begins a five-match homestand on Sunday, Sept. 25, with a 1 p.m., match versus St. John’s on Super Soccer Sunday.
