Volleyball: WVU Pulls Out a Win over Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa., - The West Virginia University volleyball team won in four games to pull out a tight match over Robert Morris on Wednesday, Sept. 13 in Moon Township, Pa.
WVU (7-3) came out sluggish, but were able to beat the Colonials 3-1 (31-29, 30-28, 28-30, 30-26).
"Robert Morris played tough and came out excited," assistant coach Camille Gutierrez said. "We didn't match it, but we were able to pull it out."
The bright spot for the Mountaineers came from the senior leaders. Kelly Mullins and Stephanie Zolna each registered a double-double, with Mullins having 14 kills and 16 digs and Zolna adding 13 kills and 21 digs.
Julie Hockenson came up big with 9 blocks, adding to the team season-high 13. She also had 16 kills. Aurora Ebert-Santos led the defense with 32 digs.
"Kelly hit really well once again and Julie had some great blocks in the third game," Gutierrez said.
The Mountaineers return to action on Friday Sept. 16, when they host Buffalo at 7:30 p.m. as part of the WVU Classic. WVU will also play host to Duquesne (Noon) and Memphis (8:00 p.m.) on Saturday, Sept. 17 as part of the tournament.
