MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men’s soccer team wasted no time in getting started in 2005 as the Mountaineers pummeled defending Atlantic 10 champion George Washington 4-1 in a preseason scrimmage on Saturday night in York, Pa.
WVU jumped out to a commanding 4-0 lead before the Colonials scored late in the match with mostly Mountaineer reserves on the field.
Junior forward Jarrod Smith got the Mountaineers on the board first and was followed by goals from sophomore Reed Cooper and freshmen Zak Boggs and Kolby LaCrone.
West Virginia begins regular season play on Thursday, Sept. 1, at Dick Dlesk Stadium against Campbell in the WVU Labor Day Shootout Sponsored by Jersey’s Subs. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
