Men's Basketball: Gansey's, Herber's Teams Advance

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia basketball players Mike Gansey and Joe Herber helped their teams advance to the World University Games quarterfinal medal round on Wednesday in Izmir, Turkey.
Gansey, a starting guard for the United States, scored four points and snared three rebounds in USA’s 87-51 win over the Czech Republic in Wednesday's final preliminary round game. Gansey shot 2 for 3 from the field.
Duke’s Sheldon Williams led the Americans with 16 points, while Ales Chan paced the Czech Republic with 16.
Herber came off the bench and scored six points in Germany’s 115-69 win over China in the final prelim game. Herber scored all his points by shooting a perfect 2 of 2 from 3-point range. He shot 2 of 5 from the field overall.
Six Germans scored in double figures led by Alexander Segelke and Guido Grunmeid with 16 points apiece.
Both Germany and the USA will be in action in Thursday’s quarterfinal round against opponents that are yet to be determined.
