Women's Track: Four to Compete at Nationals

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four West Virginia University athletes look to make their marks at the NCAA Track and Field Championships set to start on Wednesday, June 8, at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex in Sacramento, Calif. Competition will continue through Saturday.
Seniors Megan Metcalfe and Jennifer Davis will be competing in the women’s 5,000, senior Jennifer Kemp is running in the women’s 800, and sophomore Jessica Czaikowski will be performing in the women’s 100-meter hurdles.
Metcalfe has the country’s second-fastest time in the 5K following her 15:47.64 clocking at NCAA East Regionals two weeks ago at Randall’s Island, N.Y. Her time is six seconds off Stanford senior Sara Bei’s season-best time of 15.41.57 performed back on April 15. Metcalfe has already been awarded All-America recognition eight times for her career, including six citations in indoor and outdoor track.
Davis has the 13th fastest time of the 5K field of 27 with a time of 16:23.01 produced on May 27.
Kemp enters the 800 with the nation’s 22nd fastest time of 2:06.20 performed on May 15. Kemp has won her last two races at the ECAC championships and NCAA East Regionals and this year marks Kemp’s third-straight national appearance.
Czaikowski has the 24th fastest time in the 100-meter hurdles with a 13.43 clocking produced on May 28. She is making her second straight appearance at outdoor nationals.
All four competitors will compete on Wednesday. Kemp is schedule to run round one of the 800 at 4:35 pm (Western Time); Czaikowski will compete in the 100-hurdle preliminaries at 7 pm; and Metcalfe and Davis will run round one of the 5,000 meters at 9:40 pm.
The semifinal for the 800 is scheduled for 6:45 pm Thursday, the 100 hurdles final is scheduled for 8:05 pm Friday, the 800-meter finals will be at 7:40 pm on Saturday, and the 5,000 final will run at 8:10 pm on Saturday.
The Mountaineers are sending their most competitors to outdoor nationals since 1999 and are looking for their best finish since placing 24th in 1995.
CBS will replay the championships on Saturday, June 18, at 2:30 pm ET.
