Track: Stechschulte 2nd After Day One

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – West Virginia University sophomore Abbie Stechschulte currently ranks second in the heptathlon after recording 2,991 points on Friday at the BIG EAST outdoor championships in Piscataway, N.J.
The Columbus Grove, Ohio, native trails Pitt’s Tamara McGill for first place by 490 points. McGill leads the field of nine with a total of 3,481 points.
Stechschulte’s best finish of the day came in the shot put where she posted a second place throw of 11.89 meters. The sophomore placed fifth in the high jump (1.56m) and 200 meters (26.48) and fourth in the 100 meter hurdles (14.62).
Stechschulte and the rest of the heptathlon field return to action on Saturday when they are scheduled to compete in the long jump, javelin and 800 meters. Saturday also marks the first day of individual track and field events at the 2005 BIG EAST outdoor championships.
