MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Former West Virginia University linebacker Adam Lehnortt has signed a free agent contract with the San Diego Chargers.
Lehnortt becomes the sixth Mountaineer player to sign as a free agent and the ninth overall to be affiliated with an NFL team. Pacman Jones, Chris Henry and Rasheed Marshall were selected in this year’s NFL draft, while Kay-Jay Harris, Tim Brown, Eddie Jackson, Ben Lynch and Mike Watson signed free agent deals.
Lehnortt earned second team all-Big East honors in 2004 after producing 74 tackles, three sacks and 12 tackles for losses as a senior. The 6-foot-3, 225-pound, Oil City, Pa., resident ranks sixth in the WVU career list with 29 tackles for losses and finished his career with 303 total stops.
Lehnortt’s best game was a 15-tackle, two-TFL, one-sack and one-fumble-recovery performance against Cincinnati in 2003. He was also named a Big East academic all-star and was invited to play in the Villages Gridiron Classic all-star game in Florida.
