FAIRFAX, Va. – The West Virginia men’s soccer team stayed unbeaten in its spring scrimmage schedule by downing George Mason 4-1, Sunday, April 17, in Fairfax, Va.
“Overall it was a good performance, but we have a long way to go to achieve our long term goals,” said head coach Mike Seabolt. “But it was also nice to see the offense step up and score some goals.”
The Mountaineers scored their first goal on a penalty kick from Dan Stratford that was set up when forward Jarrod Smith was taken down in the box by the GMU goalkeeper.
WVU would later score when Smith took a ball from Geoff Cameron and booted it home.
The Mountaineers would pad its lead with goals from Ashraf Ahmad, assisted by newcomer Jyler Noviello, and Andy Wright, assisted by Stratford.
Sophomore goalkeeper Nick Noble played 75 minutes and allowed no goals. Noble has now played 255 minutes this spring and is yet to allow a goal to score.
Goalkeeper Emeka Ogbonna played the final 15 minutes of the match in goal for WVU and gave up a score on a penalty kick. West Virginia is now 2-0-1 in the spring.
The Mountaineers return to action on April 30, when they travel to Akron, Ohio, to face the Akron Zips.
