MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University women’s track team travels to Boston on March 5-6 to compete in the 2005 ECAC indoor championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center.
WVU has had two weeks off since fighting the flu to finish fifth at the BIG EAST championships on Feb. 20. As a team, the Mountaineers will be healthy for the first time since competing at the Challenge Cup in State College, Pa., on Feb. 11-12.
Senior Jennifer Kemp was West Virginia’s only event champion of the weekend. After placing sixth in 2003 and second in 2004, the Edmonton, Alberta, native conquered her first 800 meter title at the BIG EAST championships. Kemp finished the race in an ECAC qualifying time of 2:10.26.
The Mountaineers enter the 2005 ECAC championships as the reigning runners-up from a year ago. The second place finish was a tie for the best finish in school history. Overall, the Mountaineers came out of the weekend with nine personal best efforts, eight top-five finishes, a national qualifier, a school record holder and two event champions. West Virginia garnered a total of 51 points, just 11 points behind first place Pitt.
Saturday’s events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and end at approximately 6 p.m. Sunday’s action is expected to get underway at 1 p.m. and come to a close with a 3:40 p.m. awards ceremony.
