Baseball: BC Makes Final BIG EAST Visit

Thursday’s twinbill also marks the BIG EAST opener for both teams. West Virginia is 4-5 in BIG EAST openers since joining the league in 1996.
The Mountaineers are 3-3-3 in BIG EAST opening series at Hawley Field with their last series win coming against Pitt in 1998. WVU and BC have opened conference play against each other once before in 1996 with the Mountaineers earning a three-game sweep.
West Virginia (8-11) found its offense during the past six games going 4-2 while batting .330 as a team with five home runs, 15 doubles, 13 walks and two triples. During the stretch, five Mountaineers have batted .350 or better including Lee Fritz, Kyle Matuszek, Casey Bowling and Justin Jenkins.
Boston College enters its conference opener with an 11-5 record and is coming off a series sweep against Navy. The Eagles bring a six-game win streak to Hawley Field and are led offensively by Jason Delaney. The senior outfielder is batting .400 with three home runs and 16 RBI.
West Virginia resumes conference play by hosting Georgetown for a doubleheader on Saturday, March 26, at 1 p.m.
