FAYETTEVILLE, ARK. -- West Virginia University's Distance Medley Relay team garnered All-America honors at the NCAA indoor women's track and field championships in Fayetteville, Ark., Friday evening.
The team, comprised of Jennifer Davis, Susan Davis, Pam Richardson and Jennifer Kemp ran a combined time of 11:13.07 to finish sixth. The top eight squads receive All-America honors.
In the meet, senior Jennifer Davis ran a 4:42.00 mile; junior Susan Davis ran a 3:28.50 1,200m; senior Richardson ran a 54.80 400m; and senior Kemp ran a 2:05.90 800m.
"I'm very proud of our team," WVU head coach Jeff Huntoon said of his DMR squad. "There are two West Virginia natives on the team and three seniors. It's a heck of a way to go out for them. You couldn't ask for any more.
"Time-wise they almost equalled the season's best so they competed well at the most opportune time. The team did a great job to finish off their indoor season.
Michigan won the DMR with a combined time of 11:08.24.
Also, in 60 meter hurdle action, sophomore Jessica Czaikowski ran a time of 8.43 in heat two of preliminary action to finish eighth. The time did not qualify for the championship run.
"Jessica had a great experience as only a sophomore," Huntoon added. "She knows what she needs to do to get better and we're expecting great things from her in the future.
"Our success here was absolutely huge for our outdoor season," Huntoon remarked. "Jennifer Kemp recorded her best split time ever indoors and the same goes for Pam. Jennifer Davis has had a wonderful indoor season and to step in and fill Megan Metcalfe's shoes admirably is remarkable. This was a huge accomplishment by four women on the track. It is also a testiment to assistant coach Sean Cleary for his hard work.
"This is a good team and now they have a reason to expect a lot from themselves in the outdoor season."
