Morgantown, W.Va. - The West Virginia University women's tennis team looks to post its first two-match winning streak of the season when it hosts Wright State on Friday, Feb. 10, in Pittsburgh.
The Mountaineers (3-2) are coming off a 2-1 weekend at the Virginia Commonwealth Invitational on Feb. 4-5. West Virginia defeated Campbell, 4-1, while falling to No. 55 VCU, 0-5, on Feb. 4. WVU topped East Carolina, 3-1, on Feb. 5.
Wright State enters Friday's match with a record of 2-5, but comes to Pittsburgh in the midst of a two-match winning streak. The Raiders, who have yet to play a home match, defeated Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 7-0, on Jan. 29, and Wisconsin-Green Bay, 4-0, on Jan. 30.
West Virginia enters Friday's match with an undefeated record of 3-0 against unranked opponents. WVU's first defeat of the season came at the hands of William and Mary, who is currently ranked No. 26 in the nation.
Friday's contest will also mark the first singles appearance of the season for sophomore Ashley Constantine. Fellow sophomore Catherine Koontz will be in the singles lineup for the first time since WVU defeated Cincinnati, 4-2, on Jan. 21.
"I know that Ashley and Catherine are excited to get back into the lineup," coach Dan Silverstein says. "The leadership they have demonstrated this year has been phenomenal. We are looking forward to seeing them back in action."
Friday's match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m.
