MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Pat White and Steve Slaton are going to have to find more shelf space. Today both were named to the CollegeFootballNews.com freshmen All-America teams. Last week the duo was honored by Rivals.com.
White, a Daphne, Ala., native, was selected to the CFN first team while Slaton made the second team.
White orchestrated West Virginia’s 17-point fourth quarter comeback victory over Louisville and has been dominant ever since. He ran for 111 yards on just 8 carries in a road win at Cincinnati, broke a school record for quarterbacks by rushing for 220 yards in a win on Thanksgiving against Pitt, and finished the regular season with 177 yards and TD runs of 65 and 76 yards at South Florida.
For the season White ran 107 times for 875 yards and 7 touchdowns, averaging an amazing 8.2 yards per carry. He also completed 54 of 100 passes for 708 yards and 7 touchdowns.
Slaton, like White, made a splash in the Louisville win rushing for a season-high 188 yards and equaling a Big East record with six touchdowns. The Levittown, Pa., resident rushed for 924 yards and scored 16 total touchdowns in nine game’s worth of action. Slaton was recently named Big East rookie of the year.
West Virginia starts preparations for the 2006 Nokia Sugar Bowl with a light workout Friday evening. The Mountaineers will practice twice before final examinations begin on Monday. The team will resume practice following finals before being excused for Christmas break.
The Mountaineers face SEC champion Georgia in the 2006 Nokia Sugar Bowl to be played in Atlanta, Ga.
