Men's Basketball: WVU Returns to AP Poll

ATLANTA -- West Virginia returned to this week’s Associated Press Top 25 men’s basketball poll, released today.
The Mountaineers are ranked 25th this week after depositing previously No. 7-ranked Oklahoma 92-68 in Oklahoma City last Thursday night. In that game center Kevin Pittsnogle scored 25 points and guard Joe Herber added a career-high 21 to help the Mountaineers to their biggest victory over a Top 10-ranked team since beating No. 6 NYU by 25 points in a game in 1952.
The loss dropped Oklahoma to 14th in the AP poll and 15th in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
West Virginia got 28 votes in the coaches poll to rank 30th. WVU returned to the AP poll after a four-week absence. West Virginia began the year ranked 14th in the AP poll and 15th in the ESPN/USA Today poll. The Mountaineers climbed to as high as 13th on Nov. 21 before falling out completely.
West Virginia returns to the court this Friday, Dec. 30, at the WVU Coliseum facing Canisius of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
