MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University men’s soccer team landed a program-record four players on the 2005 all-BIG EAST teams that were announced late Thursday evening at the annual awards banquet in Vernon, Conn.
Three Mountaineers, Nick Noble, Jarrod Smith and Andy Wright, earned spots on the second team. Before this year, the team had only produced four second team players combined since joining the BIG EAST in 1995 and only six on all three teams.

Noble, a junior from Damascus, Md., is having yet another record setting season in 2005. The goalkeeper has posted a school record 11 shutouts thus far and holds the second lowest goals against average for a single season (0.88). Noble needs just three more shutouts to tie John Capon’s career record for shutouts, which stands at 28.
Smith, a junior from Havelock North, New Zealand, has paced the team’s offense throughout the season. Smith currently leads the team in goals (8) and points (18). His three game-winning goals also tie Wright for the most on the team.

Wright, a sophomore from Liverpool, England, has been one of the team’s most consistent and tough midfielders this season. He has recorded five goals and two assists to date for 12 points. Wright scored his third game-winning goal of the season in the conference tournament’s first round against Rutgers and followed it up with WVU’s only goal against South Florida in the quarterfinals.
Rounding out all-BIG EAST honors for WVU is Devon McTavish, who earned a spot on the third team. The lone senior on the 2005 roster, McTavish moved to defense as a senior and has been one of the primary reasons the team has recorded 11 shutouts. He has also recorded two goals on the season. His 73 career matches played ranks him tied for fourth all-time in the Mountaineer record books.
WVU (12-7-2) will hope to continue play this season when the field of 48 teams is announced for the NCAA tournament on Monday, Nov. 14, at 4 p.m. on ESPNews. The berth would be the first trip to the tournament for the Mountaineers since 1992 and only the seventh in school history.
